Bounce Rate: What It Really Tells You (And How to Fix It Fast)
Let’s be honest—a high bounce rate is a red flag. It’s like someone walking into your store, taking one look, and walking right back out. Brutal.
Here’s what it means:
Bounce Rate is the percentage of visitors who land on a page and leave without clicking anything else. No scroll. No opt-in. No sale.
Why It Matters
A high bounce rate usually means:
- Your page didn’t match their intent
- Your design turned them off
- It loaded too slow (yikes!)
- There was no clear Call to Action
If people bounce, they’re not converting—and you’re leaving money on the table.
How to Fix It
Here’s the fix list I give clients (and use myself):
- Match content to intent – Don’t promise one thing in the SERP and deliver another.
- Speed it up – Use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights. 3 seconds is the magic number.
- Make your CTA stupid obvious – Don’t make people guess what to do.
- Optimize above the fold – That’s your first impression. Nail it.
- Use videos or visuals – They keep people engaged longer.
What’s a “Good” Bounce Rate?
- 20–30% = Outstanding
- 40–60% = You’re solid
- 70%+ = Time for an intervention
